The VQF Engine

Optional · Free · Mac & Windows

The VQF Engine is VertForge's optional native helper. Everything in VertForge works without it: crop, swap, stack, store and apply looks. The engine adds the one thing the Adobe Premiere Pro extension layer can't reach: multicam angle switching, so your stacked looks store and recall camera angles. Install it when you cut multicam. Skip it if you don't.

A free, separate download you set up once. Pick your platform. (VertForge itself is one file that Creative Cloud installs. Don't have it yet? Get VertForge first.)

Download VQF Engine macOS Download VQF Engine Windows

Version 1.2.2 · Mac: signed & notarized by Video Quick Fix®, macOS 13+ · Windows 10 / 11 (x64)

Then, four steps:

  1. Mac: open the installer you just downloaded and follow the prompts.
Windows: unzip, then copy VQF_Engine.acsrf into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\ControlSurface\ (create the ControlSurface folder if it isn't there; Windows will ask for admin permission).
  2. In Premiere Pro, open Control Surface settings: Mac: Premiere Pro → Settings → Control Surface · Windows: Edit → Preferences → Control Surface.
  3. If VQF Engine isn't in the list, click ADD and pick it.
  4. Quit and reopen Premiere Pro. The engine only starts after a restart.

You're done when the VertForge panel says VQF Engine connected. Multicam looks now store and recall camera angles.

Premiere Pro doesn't see it?

The most common fix: quit Premiere Pro fully, reopen it, and check Control Surface again. The engine sometimes needs one clean restart after install. If it's still missing, run the engine installer again, then repeat the ADD step above.

Updating the engine

Mac: run the newer installer right over your existing install, then quit and reopen Premiere Pro. Windows: with Premiere Pro closed, replace the old VQF_Engine.acsrf in the ControlSurface folder with the new one, then reopen Premiere Pro. VertForge tells you when your engine is older than it needs (currently 1.2.2).

What's new in 1.2.2

Fixes multicam angle recall on real-world projects: on larger projects with many sequences, 1.2.1 could fail to locate the active sequence, so stored looks came back without camera angles. 1.2.2 finds sequences reliably on first use. Also the first Windows release. If you're on 1.2.1, update; there's nothing to uninstall.

On Windows?

The Windows engine is a single file, no installer: drop it in the ControlSurface folder as described above. If anything misbehaves, tell us and it gets fixed. Remember it's optional: VertForge on Windows does everything except multicam angle switching without it.

For developers

The engine exposes a documented WebSocket API — the same one VertForge uses. Commands, replies, and live telemetry are all specified in the VQF Engine API reference.
